Dr Mwinyi’s SNR initiative resolves 11,116 complaints

THE President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has stressed that the Sema na Rais (SNR) initiative is a bridge between the government and wananchi.

He made the remarks during 3rd anniversary of SNR held at the State House grounds recently.

The president said, the system has become a crucial linkage between the government and the people, where the problems faced by the community are raised and addressed.

He said the government is increasing closeness to the people by listening to their challenges and resolving them adding that in the past three years, 11,116 out of 13,517 disputes were resolved while 2,351 are still being processed.

However, he noted that there is a need for the SNR management to increase cooperation with all ministries and government institutions, especially those with a huge number of complaints that remain unsolved.

He congratulated the institutions that excelled in achieving the SNR goals and advised them to keep it up.

SNR Deputy Director, Haji Khamis, mentioned the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports as a public institution that has excelled where out of 287 complaints, 286 have been properly addressed, followed by the Zanzibar Civil Status Registration Agency (ZCSRA) where 187 out of 190 disputes have been dealt with, while 180 in 183 complaints at the Zanzibar Social Security Fund (ZSSF), have been resolved.

He said complaints that have taken a long time without being addressed are registered at the Ministry of Construction, Communications and Transport (153), Zanzibar Water Authority (51), the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (22), Zanzibar Electricity Corporation (13) and the Western Urban Region (7).

The institutions that performed poorly were the Unguja South Region, Unguja South Region Police Force, Pemba North Region Police Force, the Ministry of Construction, Communications and Transport and Urban Western Region.
