127,551 candidates to sit for Isles national exams this year

MORE than 127,550 candidates will sit for the Isles national examinations this year, including 44,684 standard seven pupils who have started writing their papers today in the Isles 1,309 examination centres.

This is the highest number of candidates ever registered in the islands.

“Just 44,684 pupils will sit for national primary leaving examinations on Monday (today), 58,485 for standard four and 24,382 for form two,” said Minister for Education and Vocational Training, Lela Muhamed Mussa.

Of the 127,551 candidates, 51.5 percent are girls,” Lela told the media adding that the ministry has put in place measures to ensure the smooth running of the national examinations.

“We are checking whether our teachers have adequately prepared our children which we are sure they have done. The teachers have done good job and we believe our children are ready for the exams. This is the first standard seven exams since the government reverses the standard seven exams instead of the standard six exams,” she said.

Lela said, of 127,551 candidates 655 are pupils with disabilities which accounted for 0.5 percent.
